Medicare Plan Options
If you have less than three months before you turn 65, you may need to make a decision quickly regarding your Medicare. Specifically, your Medicare Part B coverage may be delayed if you wait until you turn 65 to sign up. This could mean that you have no coverage until it “kicks in.”
Essentially, you might have a gap in your insurance. Also, you need to select which Medicare Advantage Plan is right for you. And we’d advise that you do this before time runs out.
Sign Up Early
When you turn age 65, you’re eligible for Medicare. However, if you are not receiving Social Security benefits, you may have to sign up in order to get your Medicare benefits.
Additionally, Medicare is offered in the form of Parts A, B, C, and D. It’s important to learn your options now. Medicare has an “initial enrollment period” during which you may sign up for Medicare. According to the U.S. Government’s website for Medicare, you have a 7-month period to select coverage. This window begins 3 months before the month of your 65th birthday, and ends 3 months after the month of your 65th.
Basic Medicare, and Medicare Advantage.
Medicare Plan Types
There are two main Medicare categories: Basic Medicare, and Medicare Advantage. Basic Medicare is also known as Medicare Parts A and B. Generally, they don’t cover all of your medical needs. However, Medicare Advantage, or Part C, provides additional benefits, as well as choices for prescription drug coverage.
Medicare supplemental insurance is also an important part of your overall plan. Making sure you have enough coverage and no surprise medical bills is critical. No one wants to be stuck with a large bill that insurance didn’t cover, or have to turn down a medical service because of their lack of insurance or ability to afford it.
Don’t miss your opportunity. If you wait, you might not be able to sign up for supplemental insurance on time. Be sure to learn all about what’s available to you and your options.
